CBC’s Radio Active featuring Marco Zenone
June 16, 2025: “People looking for health information online can be targeted by unscrupulous companies. That’s according to researchers at the University of Alberta and UBC. They discovered searching certain keywords or treatments — specifically those around cancer diagnoses — led to them being targeted with ads for alternative health treatments not backed by science. Marco Zenone is one of those researchers. He’s with the University of Alberta’s Health Law Institute.”
Cafe Scientifique
April 10, 2025: StopSCAM researchers joined Café Scientifique to talk about cancer misinformation. Hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society and UBC’s Cancer Prevention Research Cluster, the event featured Cheryl Peters, Emily Heer, and Marco Zenone, who discussed misinformation about cancer prevention and treatment. They also gave a sneak peek at findings from a new national survey on cancer misinformation.
The discussion sparked thoughtful questions from the audience, including how to talk to family and friends who believe misinformation, what practical steps individuals and policies can take to counter false claims, and how to address the growing mistrust in health professionals and experts. Participants also raised important points about how the current political climate makes our information environment even more confusing.
